FIRST GREEN FLAG FOR GORMANSTON

LITTER & WASTE

We are very proud to announce that Franciscan College Gormanston has now achieved their first Green Flag. A virtual Ceremony was held for our Green Schools Committee on the 4th October 2021 to mark this fine accomplishment. The commitment of young student leaders to justifiable causes is worthy of our praise.

Congratulations to all involved.

FRIDAY 14TH MAY 2021

RAISING AWARENESS - LITTER AND WASTE

After a lot of hard work and raising awareness by our Green Schools Committee, past and present, we are finally at a point where we are able to apply for our Green Flag. Today at a 'Whole School Assembly' Mr. Lavin, Principal spoke about the importance of this milestone and shared the following presentation produced by members of our Green School Committee. It is very informative and can viewed or downloaded from the link below.

  • THE LITTER & WASTE FLAG -

GORMANSTON COLLEGE WORK TOWARDS ACHIEVING THEIR FIRST EVER GREEN FLAG

Since its formation in May 2018 the Green Schools Committee have played an active role within the school community. The Committee are currently working towards achieving the schools first ever Green Flag - The Litter & Waste Flag. This can only be obtained through hard work and commitment, which the Committee has proven they have in abundance.

To obtain the flag the Committee have completed an action plan showing how they have reduced waste and spread awareness throughout the school community. They have done this through implementing paper bins in every classroom, through monitoring the weights of bins and through presentations with some classes as part of the CSPE Curriculum.

Most recently, a bake sale was held to raise funds for new bins on the corridors allowing students to correctly sort their waste.

Further actions have been put on hold due to the long break and current Public Health restrictions. However, the committee still communicate online, planning events, and hope to get back into action as soon as possible. Achieving the flag is still a huge goal, requiring a lot of work and effort. The Committee plan to secure the 'Litter and Waste Flag' by the end of 2020.
