DEBATING IN FRANCISCAN COLLEGE GORMANSTON
Franciscan College Gormanston has a longstanding tradition of debating and public speaking. Students love the opportunity to take part in competitions against other schools around the country and to practise against each other.
Both seniors and juniors can participate in a variety of leagues and build skills of quick thinking, logical reasoning, effective delivery and confident communication.
In recent years, juniors have participated in Mace style debating through involvement in the ‘Junior Mace Debating’ competition. Seniors have had chances to take part in the ‘Concern Debates’ and in the ‘LMFM Radio Debates’. There is nothing more satisfying than turning the opposing team’s arguments upside down. We usually have lunchtime and after school practice for competitions. However, due to restrictions placed on us by public health guidelines this extra-curricular activity is temporarily postponed.
