Dear Parent / Guardian and 6th year Students,
For all our 6th year young adults we are fast approaching the culmination of your school career. Next term is your last term in school as students. While this period of time will lead you to your formal graduation from school and the Leaving Certificate examination itself, it nonetheless remains a standard, normal school term. This means that all students including 6th year students are expected to respect the established school rules and procedures including the requirement to attend timetabled classes.
As in previous years we have always reminded students and parents of this and our experience to date is that the vast majority of students respond positively , engage with their final term’s work, and look forward enthusiastically to their graduation ceremony and the freedom connected to independent living and work.
There is always the possibility that some students may choose to do their own thing.
Please take note of the following:
- Students do not have permission to simply leave the school site and do what they want to do. We have a responsibility of care. Which you expect us to have.
- Timetabled lessons are not optional. Lessons should be attended.
6th year students who would prefer to operate independently of the school in preparation for their Leaving Certificate examination in June 2025 can do so but must understand they will be required to work exclusively from home. It is not an A La Carte option.
We can accommodate working from home, however, please make this request official and in writing.
We would prefer not to direct students to work from home for the remainder of this academic year but may need to do so.
Students must appreciate attendance at school is conditional on full cooperation with our school rules. Non-cooperation is likely to result in the school formally requesting that students work from home.
Exceptional disregard for the recognized and reasonable standards we expect here particularly at the end of the summer term could result in students not permitted to formally graduate and potentially not sit their examinations at this venue.
It is absolutely crucial that 6th year students understand the above and realise the consequences of not adhering in a reasonable manner to the above.
