Clanns explained

The Clann System is similar to the House system as it operates in Public Schools. On arrival in the College each student is assigned to one of the five Clanns and remains a member of that Clann throughout his/her stay.

The Head of the Clann is called the Caoimhnóir (Irish for Guardian); he is assisted in the management of the Clann by two elected Prefects. The role of the Caoimhnóir and Prefects is to care for the well being of each Clann member, organise inter-Clann competition and monitor discipline.

The Clann system encourages a sense of belonging and strives to eliminate the anonymity associated with the larger group. It affords each student the opportunity to contribute positively to the life of the College. The positive behaviour and contribution of each student is accumulated both the student and to his/her Clann. The Caoimhnóir of the Clann is a very important point of contact between parent and College as the Caoimhnóir enjoys the role of in loco parentis within the College.
